Glen Jenkins, a Navy veteran of WWII came up with the idea of building a walkway of bricks as a tribute to Chenoa area veterans. In April 2001, veterans of the Chenoa Legion Post 234 began constructing the Brick Walkway at Chenoa Cemetery.
When the American Legion was sold, the American Legion plaque was placed at the south end of the Brick Walkway.
There are currently 422 bricks in the walkway. Each brick contains the name, rank and branch of service of the individual veteran. There is room at the walkway for 705 bricks. Any veteran from the Chenoa area who is interested in adding their name to the walkway may call:
Leo Embry | (815) 945-4111
The cost to place a brick is $35.00. The price includes the brick and engraving
Be sure to visit on Memorial Day when the cemetery lines the avenue with flags and flags are flown at the Veteran’s Brick Walkway. All branches of the services are represented. It’s a beautiful sight to see!
